Spokespeople

Dr Gill Langley is The Dr Hadwen Trust’s Science Director. Dr Langley studied physiology, cell biology and zoology for her honours degree at Cambridge University, and then gained a doctorate in neurochemistry, also from Cambridge. As a research fellow at Nottingham University she studied neurochemistry in cell culture. She has led the Trust’s science and outreach programmes for 27 years.

Dr Langley served for eight years as a member of the British government’s Animal Procedures Committee which advises the Home Secretary on animal experimentation matters, and has also advised the government on the introduction of the new EU chemicals legislation, REACH. She has been an invited expert in several initiatives of the European Commission and of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Dr Langley is currently a member of the Replacement Advisory Group of the British government’s National Centre for the Three Rs (Replacement, Reduction & Refinement of animals in research).

Wendy Higgins is the The Dr Hadwen Trust’s Communications Director. Ms Higgins has more than ten years’ experience working in animal advocacy, specialising in anti-vivisection campaigning and lobbying. A committed vegan and passionate animal rights professional, Ms Higgins provides in-depth knowledge and experience of animal experimentation issues including government policy, regulation and ethics. A respected campaigner, Ms Higgins has worked with animal protection organisations across the globe to bring an end to the suffering of animals in laboratories.

Nicky Gordon is Science Communications Officer at the Dr Hadwen Trust. Nicky has an MSc in Primate Conservation including field experience studying mona monkeys in their natural habitat in the remote location of Sao Tome. As a scientist with a strong anti-vivisection ethic, she gained invaluable experience working for animal rights organisations NAVS and the BUAV, before deciding to focus her expertise on non-animal replacement research at the Dr Hadwen Trust.
